Locking Cabin Door

Hey everyone, we went to the cabin on Monday July 19th & when I put my key in the old dead bolt lock the door just swung open, the door wasn't even locked, neither dead bolt was locked! We are all very lucky everything was OK. On the reservation list it looks like Chris & Debra were last up there, so if they don't read these blog's then someone needs to call them & tell them. We figured out how it might have happened, you have to pull the door shut so the bolt can slide into the opening & turn the key all the way around otherwise it isn't really locked, and then try to open the door to make sure it's truely locked. Next time we might not be so lucky.
We also saw a large bear that was coming around the wooden stair side of the cabin about dusk on Tuesday night that almost came face to face with James. He was putting more firewood under the cabin & on his last trip around there was the bear coming his way. They both turned around the bear to the back of the cabin & James to the patio side, & we watched him go up & around cabin 15. It came back in the middle of the night & tried to chew thru his tackle box to get his bait, but was unsuccessful. The weather was very hot during the day & didn't cool off that much at night, but we had a very good time anyway. Take care everyone, Denise

Memorial Day 2010 visit

Thanks to Pat and Denise for going up to open the cabin and turn things on for the season. It was nice to have a heads up that there were plumbing problems. I was able to bring up some extra parts and get the hot water line fixed to the bathroom. Ugghhh! Not certain it is perfect so we'll have to look at it carefully next year and or at closing.

The weather was a little chilly but clear. There had been a few inches of snow a week or so earlier so everything had plenty of water. Jocelyn, Diana and Ricky (her boyfriend) raked needles and hauled them off. Also, Joc had purchased new curtains for the bedroom and we put those up.

I looked at the lights...took two apart and cleaned them out--the one over the rocker and the recliner. They might be a little better but I still think they are not as bright as they used to be. ...could it be our eyes are getting old and tired? I don't think that's it. The one other thing is to replace the mantles. ????

Went to the cabin meeting. They voted to spend some money to investigate putting liners in one or both of the water tanks above the upper road cabins. They still have water pressure problems and there is real concern that if there is a fire there will not be enough pressure to do much good with the fire hoses.

The cabin next door, # 15, is for sale.....for $150,000!!!!! What a deal??!

We posted a bunch of dates for later this summer. Be sure to enter/post any dates or let me know when you plan to go up and I'll add them to the list.

There was a huge hole in front of the outhouse where the ground had caved in. There is still plenty of room in the hole but it was downright dangerous. We placed some rocks in the gap. You'll want to step lightly and be sure to check it out before any kids head up there....don't want to lose anyone to the "pile."

Opening up the cabin--2010

Hi everyone. We are just about on to the new season and water turn on. Ryan said he would open up the cabin this year, hopefully everything is ok! We have had a busy winter & spring.
We are having another grandson (number 6!) Katie & James are getting ready to welcome their new son in about 5 weeks, we are all very excited.
Mom has had some health issues this past winter, she hadn't been feeling very well and the doctor said she should go to a heart specialist. Well they discovered she had a heart attack & found blockage in the main arteries, they wanted to do triple bypass surgery but she said no. So we are just living each day as it comes and trying to enjoy it to the fullest. She believes in the Lord and nows this life is not all there is.
Hope all is well with you all and we will keep in touch, Denise

Ah, Whitney in October

We had a great time up at the cabin last weekend. It is definitely starting to get cold up there...with the sun going behind the mountain for a good part of the afternoon. We had a fire going in the stove much of the time. Dustin cut some wood from the downed tree and we used some from the basement. If you happen to have a chainsaw it would be great to bring it up and section the tree that is just up from the back of the cabin.

The futon in great! Carolyn tried it out and said it was comfortable. Dustin used the old wood platform upstairs, too. I don't know how you managed to get those things up there?!

There was a board broken in the deck and we fixed it with a board from the side. It still needs some work.

Duplicate keys for the trash bin at the lower campground are on the hook by the back door.
